Introduction- Yvonne Chamberlain-Marquez

 Hi Ya'll!

My name is Yvonne Marquez and I am a 5th year student at the University of California, Riverside where I study US  History and Gender and Sexuality. I am a nontraditional student, a parent, and an activist. At UCR I serve as the Diversity Council Co-Chair as well the Student Parent Assistant at the Women's Resource Center. I have been history geek for as long as I can remember, but growing up poor, in a working class family sent me straight into the workforce after high school. In 2016 I made the decision to return to school and have focused on history ever since. Since being at UCR, I have contributed to a project called "Climates of Inequality" through the Humanities Action Lab, interned at the California State Historic Citrus Park where I  gave a presentation on the post WWII history of Riverside, and archived material that is in the California State archives. The HAL project focused on the detrimental  environmental effects of the ever increasing warehouse industry throughout the Inland Empire and has fueled my passion for issues for environmental justice and community engagement. I have a particular interest in the Stringfellow Acid Pits and the lasting effects of the efforts around the cleanup.
