Jay Singfield Introduction

  Hello everyone,

My name is Jorell Singfield but most people call me Jay. I am a 5th year senior getting my degree in History. I originally wanted to become a teacher but after a stint tutoring at my local high school I learned that teaching might not be for me. After coming to this realization I decided to turn my focus toward another side of the education system, counseling. As a counselor I'd be able to work with kids and still have an impact on their lives without being responsible to teach them new material daily (which is not my strong suit). I chose to study history because of father who was in the Marine Corps for 30 years. Being a military kid meant that I moved around a whole lot and saw a lot of major landmarks and with each one I wanted to know what it was about. From the Iwo Jima Memorial in Washington to the Liberty Bell to the Arizona at the bottom of Pearl Harbor I wanted to know everything there was to know about them. This passion for history was also cultivated by my grandmother who was also a history teacher and would tell me many stories of the Civil Rights Movement which she participated in.

Outside of history my interests are broad. I played a bunch of different sports growing up but a torn hip flexor ended my playing career. I still follow sports religiously and even considered a career in sports broadcasting/journalism before settling on History. I'm also a heavy gamer and anime fan. It gives me a chance to disconnect and just enter a whole different world. I'm looking forward to researching the real world and how to make it a better place for everyone!
